About

Carney Chukwuemeka was born in Eisenstadt, Austria to Nigerian parents, however he represents England at youth level.

Born in October 2003, the 19 year old started his senior Career at Aston Villa.

The Midfielder came through the ranks of Northampton Town academy before ‘The Villains’ snatched the young talent in 2016.

He spent 5 years in the academy of Aston Villa before signing a professional contract with them in 2020.

Chukwuemeka made his professional debut for Aston Villa 19 May 2021 in a 2-1 victory over Spurs.

During his first start for the club in the EFL cup 24 August 2021, ex player and pundit, Paul Merson praised the youngster by saying:

“He will be an absolute star”.

In August 2022, Carney Chukwuemeka got his big move, signing for Chelsea FC on a six-year deal.

The hype in the midfielder began when he made his first league start against Crystal Palace January 15 2023.

Since then the 19 year old has had a few stints off the bench looking sharp in the middle of the pitch.

Playing profile

Carney Chukwuemeka’s preferred position is attacking midfield (AM) but can also be deployed as a traditional 8.

He has also been used by Chelsea off the left of the midfield.

His style of play consists of being a direct dribbler, taking on players in the middle of the pitch before finding a final third pass.

Being as young as he is means Chukwuemeka thrives with confidence with the ball at his feet.

That’s what makes him so exciting to watch and why Chelsea need to take more chances on the Englishman.

Standing at 187cm (6ft 2in) means he is a dominant presence on the pitch whilst not effecting his agility and ability to have a quick change of direction.

In real life examples

In this two part sequence below presents Chukwuemeka in position to cross.

The first image shows the prospect beating his man to create space for himself.

The options crowd the box giving the Englishman plenty of choice.

The second image shows that Chukwuemeka opted for the deepest option in Kai Havertz.

The number 29 wasn’t able to get a shot off because of a poor first touch.

Chukwuemeka’s decision making in this scenario is arguably world class.

He was able to see past the crowd of players and pick out an unmarked man.

Manchester City were left scrambling trying clear the ball.

This image below presents Carney Chukwuemeka’s desire to drive at defenders.

Though he may of made the wrong decision in this attacking scenario.

The screenshot shows clearly his talent in making chances in the final third.

Conclusion

Obviously, Carney Chukwuemeka has plenty of time to assert himself in Chelsea’s future.

With everything going on at the club it makes sense why his progression has slowed down.

The fact Chelsea are stopping him from attending the World Cup means Lampard must have a plan for the midfielder before the end of the season.
